Margaritas was founded in 1998 by Tony Vanjohnson. In its very first year, Margaritas was voted Best Margaritas by the Cincinnati Enquirer, and later Cincinnati Magazine and CitySearch.com.

In 1999, Margarita's created a Cinco De Mayo celebration second to none with a live, free outdoor salsa concert to show appreciation to its patrons. In 2000, Tony created the Latino Affair Margarita prominently noted by Cincinnati Magazine.

Also in 2000, Tony created Margarita's Tequila Club to share his love of an array of Tequilas, which has now grown to over 180 varieties. Tony travels to rural parts of Mexico to talk with local restaurant owners, and learn and share unique stories and recipes served daily at Margarita's.
